The statistical highlights at the end of the first Test between India and New Zealand, in Hyderabad, on Sunday:

# India's excellent win by an innings and 115 runs is their second largest over New Zealand, next only to the win by an innings and 198 runs in the 2010-11 Nagpur Test.

- Ashwin spins India to massive victory in first Test

# New Zealand's other two defeats to India by an innings margins were - by an innings and 109 runs at Chennai and by an innings and 27 runs at Mumbai - both in 1955-56.

# For the first time, India won successive Tests by an innings' margins against New Zealand - Nagpur, 2010-11 and Hyderabad. 2012.

# 18 wickets were claimed by Indian spinners in a Test match against New Zealand for the third time - the first two occasions being Nagpur, 1969-70 and Mumbai 1976-77. The India spinners had once taken all twenty wickets against New Zealand - at Auckland in 1975-76.

# Zaheer Khan failed to take a single wicket in an Indian win for the first time in a Test match.

# Chris Martin recorded his third successive duck against India - at Nagpur in November 2010 followed by a pair in the just concluded Test at Hyderabad.

# Martin averages 3.00 against India as against his overall batting average of 2.41 in Tests.

# With 35 ducks each, Martin and Glenn McGrath share the second place with regard to the ducks in Tests. Only Courtney Walsh has registered more ducks (43) than Martin.

# Martin's tally of seven Test pairs is unlikely to be surpassed.  Amongst the current players, Zaheer has got more pairs - three.

# Pragyan Ojha's bowling record in ten Indian wins is quite impressive - 53 wickets at 26.98 runs apiece

# The last seven wickets in New Zealand's innings fell for 26 runs, which is their worst performance against India in a Test match.

# Kane Williamson's well-compiled 52 off 163 balls is his fifth half-century in Tests - his second against India.

# For the first time in a Test match, Virat Kohli has taken four catches.

# For the third time, Ravichandran Ashwin received a Man of the Match award in Tests. 

# Ashwin's superb tally of 43 wickets at 26.83 runs apiece, including four instances of five wickets or more in an innings, in first seven Tests is an Indian record. Narendra Hirwani had bagged 42 wickets at an average of 20.71 in his first seven Tests.

# Ashwin (6/31 & 6/54) has taken five wickets or more in each innings for the first time in a Test match.  He is now  the only Indian bowler to record the said feat in a Test match against New Zealand.

# Ashwin (12/85) has taken ten wickets or more in a Test match for the first time, outstripping his 9 for 128 against West Indies at Feroz Shah Kotla, Delhi in 2011-12.

# In just four Tests in India, Ashwin took 34 wickets at an average of17.32 - his strike rate being 53.2.

# Ashwin's excellent performance in the just concluded Hyderabad Test is the best by an Indian bowler against New Zealand, bettering Srinivas Venkataraghavan's 12 for 152 in the 1964-65 Delhi Test.

# Two other bowlers, apart from the above two, have taken ten wickets for India in a Test match against New Zealand - Erapalli Prasanna (11/140 at Auckland in 1975-76) and Anil Kumble (10/134 at Kanpur in 1999-00).

# Only West Indian, Courtney Walsh had performed better than Ashwin in a Test match against New Zealand - 13 for 55 in the 1994-95 Wellington Test.

# Virender Sehwag has taken four catches in a Test match against New Zealand for the first time.
