Dinesh Mongia was dimissed for a first-ball duck as Leicestershire struggled to overtake Lancashire's first inning's score in a Division Two match of the County Championship at Grace Road, Leicester on Thursday.

Responding to Lancashire's first innings score of 291, the home side had a good start before the loss of four wickets, including that of Mongia, in quick succession put them in a hole.

Openers Tom New (50) and Darren Maddy (20) helped Leicestershire give a strong reply adding 69 for the first wicket before they slumped to 78 for four.

Maddy, J K Maunders and Mongia departed for the addition of just nine runs with Glen Chapple taking the first wicket and Lancashire's Australian import Andrew Symonds accounting for the other two.

Mongia, who had bowled five overs without success in Lancashire's first innings, was out leg before to Symonds.
