The Wankhede stadium that is currently undergoing renovations may not have been able to stage the Ranji Trophy tie between Mumbai and Assam, but the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) is confident that the will be completed before the 2011 World Cup.
The Wankhede stadium is one of the venues for the mega-event that is scheduled to start on Feb 19.
"Almost 80-85 per cent of the work is over. Work on the outfield too has been completed by almost 90 per cent. The stadium will be ready well before the World Cup," MCA joint-secretary Lalchand Rajput said.
Work on clearing the debris and other materials from the ground is still going on, he admitted, but refused to comment on when the entire work will be completed.
Rajput said a decision on practice matches at the Wankhede stadium will be soon taken by the MCA.
Apart from the April 2 final, Wankhede will host two league matches during the World Cup -- New Zealand vs Canada on March 13 and Sri Lanka vs New Zealand on March 18.
