Tiwary banned after dressing room fury

February 12, 2010 21:44 IST

Promising batsman Manoj Tiwary was slapped a one-match ban and fine after his dressing room fury in Bengal's Vijay Hazare Trophy (East Zone) match against Jharkhand.

Tiwary was adjudged leg before for three before Bengal registered a seven-wicket win over Jharkhand in the one-day tournament.

Orissa Cricket Association secretary Asirbad Behera said the right-hander was so angry with the lbw decision that he abused the umpires before going berserk in the dressing room at the Barabati stadium.

"He was unhappy at the decision and he abused the umpire. Worse happened later when he brought out his anger in the dressing room. He damaged glass, mirror, switch boards and even dust-bins...," Behera said.

"A behaviour of this kind from a senior player like Tiwary, who has played for India, is disgraceful. This really leaves a bad example for the junior players," he said.

Behera demanded more disciplinary action against Tiwary, and said he has written to Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) president Jagmohan Dalmiya.

"I have asked him (Dalmiya) to take disciplinary action against him. The Bengal manager offered us money for the damage amounting to about Rs 40,000, but that's not an issue. This attitude should change," Behera added.

He further informed that match referee Sanjay Raul served the batsman a one-match suspension and fined him 100 per cent match fee.

Condemning the incident, CAB joint-secretary Arun Mitra said, "Let him come back, then we will see what can be done. We will have to see the manager's report."
