Former cricketer Maninder Singh was on Saturday discharged from a hospital in east Delhi, a week after he was admitted there with cuts on his wrists.

The 41-year-old, who was embroiled in a drug abuse case, was discharged from the Shanti Mukund Hospital this afternoon after undergoing treatment for seven days, a hospital official said.

Maninder was brought to the hospital in the small hours of June 9 with cuts on his hands. He was unconscious and bleeding profusely from both hands when brought to the hospital.

Police have taken the blood samples of Maninder to ascertain whether he was under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

The type of injuries gave rise to suspicion that it was a suicide bid but the left-arm spinner's family denied that, saying he suffered the wounds while banging at the window panes of their residence to wake them up late in the night.

Maninder, who is believed to be suffering from depression, was arrested on May 22 after police allegedly found 1.5 grams of cocaine in his possession. At present, he is out on bail.
