When defending champions India take on Pakistan in their potentially high-octane campaign opener of the ICC Cricket World Cup on February 15, at the Adelaide Oval, the awe-inspiring Sachin Tendulkar will be conspicuously absent for the first time in a match between the two arch-rivals in the showpiece event.

Starting off with a half-century in Sydney during the 1992 World Cup, to the 98 at Centurion, Tendulkar has given Indian fans plenty of memories during an India-Pakistan clash at the World Cup.

He retired from international cricket in 2013 after representing India in 200 Tests, 463 One-dayers and one Twenty20 International. In a career spanning 24 years, the 41-year-old scored a total of 34,357 international runs and 100 centuries.

Tendulkar added the missing World Cup title to his long list of achievements in his sixth attempt in 2011. He is the all-time leading run-getter in World Cup history with 2,278 runs in 45 matches at an average of 56.95.
