8 Number of double hundreds Indian captains have scored in Test cricket. Virat Kohli has scored four of them!

4 Number of double tons Virat Kohli has scored in four consecutive series -- 200 vs West Indies at North Sound in 2016, 211 vs New Zealand at Indore, 235 vs England at Mumbai and 204 vs Bangladesh at Hyderabad in 2016-17 season. He is the first player to score double tons in four consecutive series. Don Bradman (between 1930 and 1931-32) and Rahul Dravid (2003-04) had scored double tons in three consecutive series.

1 Number of captains who have scored more double hundreds in Tests than Virat Kohli. Now only West Indies’ Brian Lara is ahead of Virat with five double hundreds as captain. Three others – Don Bradman, Graeme Smith and Michael Clarke -- have also scored four double hundreds like Virat. However, Virat has the lowest innings per double hundred ratio among the lot -- scoring a double hundred every nine innings on an average!

204 Virat’s score – the highest by an Indian captain against Bangladesh, beating 129 by Rahul Dravid at Mirpur in 2007. In fact only one captain from all Test playing countries has made higher score than Virat against Bangladesh – Graeme Smith, 232 at Chittagong in 2007-08.

1168 Runs scored by Virat Kohli in Test matches at home in 2016-17 season --  most by any batsman in a home season. The previous record was held by another Indian Virender Sehwag, who had aggregated 1105 runs in 2004-05 season.

687 for six -- India’s total -- their highest against Bangladesh, beating 610 for three they made at Mirpur in 2007. India’s total is also the second highest by any side against Bangladesh after Sri Lanka’s 730 for six declared at Mirpur in 2013-14.

3 Number of consecutive Tests in which India have posted a 600+ total -- 631 at Mumbai, 759 for 7 declared at Chennai (both against England) and 687 for 6 declared vs Bangladesh. They are the first team to score 600+ totals in three consecutive Tests.

6 Number of batsmen to have scored more than 50 runs in the Indian innings -- Vijay (108), Pujara (83), Kohli (204), Rahane (82), Saha (106*) and Jadeja (60*). This equalled the existing Indian record of most Indian batsmen scoring 50+ runs in an innings. Today was the sixth such instance for India -- first since Mumbai Test against Sri Lanka in 2009-10.
