Jhulan to lead women's World Cup team

Jhulan Goswami, the ICC women's Player of the Year in 2007, will lead India in the ICC women's World Cup in Australia from March 7 to 22.

Amit Sharma will be her deputy.

The all-India selection panel for women's cricket met in Chennai on Sunday to pick a 15-member squad for the elite tournament.

The quartet of Diana David, Latika Kumari, Swaroopa Kadam and Pallavi Bharadwaj were named standbys, Board of Control for Cricket in India secretary N. Srinivasan said in a statement.

The team: Jhulan Goswami (captain), Amita Sharma (vice-captain), Mithali Raj, Rumeli Dhar, Priyanka Roy, M.D. Thirushkamini, Poonam Raut, Harman Preeth Kaur, Anjum Chopra, Sulakshana Naik, Anaga Deshpande, Reema Malhotra, Snehal Pradhan, Gohar Sultana and Shranvanthi Naidu.

Standbys: Diana David, Latika Kumari, Swaroopa Kadam and Pallavi Bharadwaj; Coach: Sudha Shah.
