Former Indian all-rounder Sanjay Bangar has been named head coach of the Indian cricket team for the upcoming limited-overs series against Zimbabwe.

The 43-year-old Railways player had previously worked as the assistant coach under team director Ravi Shastri before their contract ended with the conclusion of the World T20.

Bangar has also worked with the Kings XI Punjab in the Indian Premier League since 2014, thus becoming the only Indian to head the coaching staff of an IPL franchise.

However Kings XI Punjab finished last in the IPL 9 league table despite having a talented squad capable of a better finish.
