ICL training camp commences

The Indian Cricket League on Monday commenced its two-week training camp for its forthcoming season under the guidance of Jock Campbell, High Performance Director, ICL.

One of ICL's chief objectives is to stress on anti-doping at the training camp at Jain International School in Bangalore. The camp aims at getting the players match fit for ICL's forthcoming busy season, the organisers said in a statement.

"A first time initiative will see the ICL introduce specialised training in aspects of the game like throwing and sprinting, by roping in international experts Zane Allan Campbell (Sprint Coach) and Mathew James Buckley (Specialist Throwing Coach)", it said.

Steve Rixon, coach of the ICL India team, would also fine tune the cricketing skills of young domestic players. The camp will encompass all aspects of the physical fitness relevant in preparing the modern day cricketer.

Kiran More, ICL Executive Board Member said the main focus of the camp is to improve the fitness of the young Indian players.

"Maintaining the high standards of cricket while maintaining the spirit and integrity of the game is of paramount importance to ICL. This is the main objective of organising the pre-season camp, which will be a composite specialised camp covering all areas pertaining of fitness and cricket skills," More said.

Campbell and Rixon, who in addition to conditioning the cricketers to the nuances of the game, would also acquaint them with the anti-doping guidelines.

"I assure the cricketing fraternity and fans of the game that the forthcoming ICL season will set new benchmarks for domestic Indian cricket", More said.

The ICL has executed four tournaments, starting with the inaugural 'ICL 20-20 Indian Championship' held at Chandigarh (Panchkula), 'ICL 50's' held at Chennai and Hyderabad, the 'Edelweiss 20s Challenge' in Chandigarh (Panchkula), Gurgaon and Hyderabad to the recently concluded 'ICL World Series'.
