When a reporter asked Pakistan head coach for the reason for not playing Ahmed in the first four matches, Waqar hit back: "It’s you who is giving it a political twist.
"I never had any doubt over Sarfaz's ability, but we thought that Sarfraz would be wasted if we use him as opener. But today he came up with a brilliant performance."
Sarfraz hit a run-a-ball 49 before taking six catches behind the stumps - equaling the record for most catches behind the stumps.
The reporter than asked about a reported verbal clash between him and Sarfraz. It infuriated Waqar no end.
"It’s a silly question and I think its time to end the press conference."
Pakistan's much needed and hard fought win has been spoilt by the incident.
