We have two top performers from Thursday’s match. It is the bowling duo of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Ishant Sharma.
Bhuvneshwar continued with his impressive run in the tournament, providing India with an early breakthrough -- having Kusal Perera caught by Suresh Raina at second slip in what was his second over.
He bowled one continues spell and finished with impressive, or shall we say economic figures (9-2-18-1).
Ishant, on the other hand, came in as the first bowling change (replacing Umesh Yadav) and struck in his third over, having Lahiru Thirimanne (7) caught by Raina at second slip.
Then he ensured the vital wicket of Kumar Sangakkara (again caught by Raina).
The 24-year-old returned to have Thisara Perera (0) caught by Shikhar Dhawan to finish with figures of three for 33 (9 overs). He was named the man-of-the-match for his effort.
It was the effort of these two bowlers at the top that considerably lessened the pressure off the other Indian bowlers and in the broader context helped the team restrict Sri Lanka to a modest total.
