The Sugar Free-Saran Corporate Cricket 7's 2005, featuring 90 corporate teams from all over India, achieved a milestone by breaking into the prestigious Limca Books of Records for being the longest running and largest cricket event.
The teams will compete in the ninth edition of the tournament which will be played on a league-cum-knockout basis during weekends.
Some of India's leading corporate houses have already confirmed participation. Some of the executives expected to participate are: Bharat Puri (MD, Cadbury India), Nirvik Singh (Chairman, Grey Worldwide, South Asia), T Doongaji (MD Tata Services), Peter Mukherjea (CEO, Star TV, India) among others.
The championship was initiated in 1997, with 23 teams taking part in the inaugural edition. The rules are structured in a manner that ensures that only amateurs play, and professional cricketers are not allowed. However, they can fill in as the coach or manager of a team.
The teams will vie for the Open Category, Seniors Cup and the Sugar Cup.
Saran Presents, one of India's leading corporate sports event management companies, has also been recognised by the Limca Books of Records for taking forward the biggest corporate sports series that includes the conduct of soccer, bowling, go-karting, tennis and squash championships.
