Happy Birthday, Sunil

July 09, 2009 18:11 IST

It's more than two decades since Sunil Manohar Gavaskar called it a day, but his legion of admirers hasn't diminished.

Reckoned by cricket connoisseurs as one of the best openers to have played the game, the 'Little Master' was a pillar of India's batting in the 1970s and 1980s. When he ended his Test career in 1987 he held the following world records: most matches (125), most consecutive matches (106), most runs (10,122), most hundreds (34), most scores of 50 or more (79) and most hundred partnerships (58).

Since retiring from the game, the former India captain is winning accolades as an erudite television commentator and writer.

The batting legend turns 60 on Friday, July 10. Join us in wishing him on the occasion.
