Gujarat skittled out for 129

An erratic batting display by Gujarat on Saturday poured cold water on all the hard work done by their bowlers as the hosts were skittled out for a paltry 129 by Hyderabad on the second day of their Elite 'A' Group Ranji Trophy match at the Sardar Patel Stadium at Ahmedabad.

Hyderabad speedster N P Singh tamed Gujarat's batsmen in their own den by grabbing six wickets as Hyderabad gained a vital 143 run lead over the hosts.

On a day which saw 14 wickets falling for 161 runs, Gujarat also suffered the ignominy of losing four wickets at the same score of 124. Seven of their batsmen could not even reach double figures.

Hyderabad gave the hosts a dose of their own medicine as the pace-spin combination of N P Singh (6-33) and skipper Venkatapathy Raju (3-26) sent the Gujarat batsmen packing.

Earlier, Hyderabad failed to add much to their overnight score of 240 as they lost three wickets for just five runs. Fast bowler Lalit Patel was the pick of the Gujarat bowlers taking five wickets for 58.

But N P Singh struck early when he uprooted the stumps of Gujarat skipper Nilesh Modi (3) when the score was eight.

Though Gujarat progressed steadily to 113 for the loss of two wickets, the middle order collapsed like a pack of cards with eight batsmen adding just 16 to the score.

Only Akash Christian (25), Luv Pawar (40), and Niraj Patel (36) could manage to reach double figures. N P Singh accounted for the wickets of all three.

At the end of the day's play, Hyderabad were 27 for the loss of opener T Suman in their second innings.
