The ninth edition of the Indian Premier League kicks off in Mumbai on Saturday, April 9, with defending champions Mumbai Indians taking on newcomers Rising Pune Supergiants, led by India Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
The Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders eye a third crown, the former having emerged triumphant in 2013 and 2015 and the latter in 2012 and 2014.
The Virat Kohli-led Royal Challengers Bangalore -- which boasts of an explosive batting line-up that includes Chris Gayle and A B de Villiers -- and the Delhi Daredevils -- which has former India batting great Rahul Dravid as mentor -- will be looking for a change in fortunes after eight unsuccessful attempts.
The Kings XI Punjab are also yet to win the title, having come close in 2014 when they finished runners-up to the Kolkata Knight Riders.
Sunrisers Hyderabad's best finish is fourth place in their debut season in 2013.
Rising Pune Supergiants and Gujarat Lions, who replaced the Chennai Super Kings and the Rajasthan Royals for the next two years, will also make a strong claim for the title in their debut season.
