Sourav Ganguly on Monday raised Rs 16.5 lakh for the liver transplant of a Siliguri boy by auctioning his bats.

Raj Goswami, who is suffering from a serious liver disease and requires Rs 15 lakh for the transplant, is undergoing treatment at a Delhi hospital.

It took just 19 minutes for Ganguly to raise the funds for Raj, who comes from an impoverished family.

Ganguly's bats were purchased in the auction by, among others, industrialist Harsh Neotia, who snapped up one for Rs 200,000.

West Bengal Urban Development minister Ashok Bhattacharya bought another for Rs 5,000.
