England women beat India by two wickets

England women got the better of their Indian counterparts by two wickets off the last ball in the first T20 International at the MCA's Bandra-Kurla Complex ground in Mumbai on Thursday.

Set a modest target of 126, the visitors achieved the target for the loss of eight wickets.

Twenty-three-year old Jennifer Gunn top-scored for the tourists with 34 off 24 balls.

She featured in a crucial 40-run stand with Daniel Hazell (14 in 16 balls) to take England closer.

Medium pacer Soniya Dabir picked up three wickets for the hosts.

Earlier, put in to bat, India made 125 for five, with the in-form Mithali Raj emerging the top run-getter with 30 off 26 balls with four fours.

The second tie is slated on March 6 and the third and final T20 clash is scheduled on March 8.

India won the five-match 50-over series 3-2 prior to the T20 rubber.

Brief scores: India 125 for 5 (Mithali Raj 30) lost to England 126 for 8 (Jennifer Gunn 34; Soniya Dabir 3 for 23).
