Dhoni is first captain to be dismissed run-out on 99 in Tests!

Captain MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli gave India a slender chance of coming back into the game after a fight back. But England struck late to level their chances as well.

Here are the statistical highlights of the third day's play of the fourth Test between India and England played in Nagpur on Saturday.

# Virat Kohli and Mahendra Singh Dhoni have shared a fifth-wicket stand of 198 -- India's second highest against England -- the highest is 214 between Mohammad Azharuddin and Ravi Shastri at Eden Gardens, Kolkata in 1984-85.

# The partnership is India's highest for any wicket at VCAS, Jamtha, eclipsing the 193 for the sixth wicket between Dhoni and Rahul Dravid against New Zealand in 2010-11.

# Virat Kohli (103 off 295 balls) has posted his third Test century -- one each against New Zealand, Australia and England.

# Kohli has registered a strike rate of 34.91 -- his worst when he has made 30 or more in a Test innings.

# Mahendra Singh Dhoni's 99 took 246 balls -- his first instance of facing 200 balls or more in a Test innings.

# Dhoni became the first captain to be dismissed run-out on 99 in Tests. Amongst the Indian batsmen, the only other player to be dismissed run-out on 99 is M LJaisimha -- against

Pakistan in the 1960-61 Kanpur Test.

# Dhoni's splendid 99 is his highest score against England, obliterating the 92 at The Oval in 2007.

# Dhoni's 28th half-century in Tests is his eighth against England.  In the sub-continent, he has registered 18 fifties and is averages 45.60 in 45 Tests (Runs 2508).

# Dhoni became the 11th captain and the second Indian captain to be dismissed on 99.  In the 2002 Nottingham Test, Sourav Ganguly was become the first Indian captain to be dismissed on 99.

# Eight Indian players have been dismissed on 99 in Tests. Ganguly is the only one to post two such scores -- one each against England and Sri Lanka.

# On Indian soil, Dhoni has completed his 2,000 runs in Tests, tallying 2008 runs at an average of 43.65 in 36 Tests.  His tally includes four hundreds and 15 fifties.

# Kohli faced most number of balls (295)in a Test innings, surpassing the 213 while scoring 116 against Australia at Adelaide in January this year.

# James Anderson (4/68) has claimed four wickets in an innings in a Test match on Indian soil for the second time -- the first instance being 4 for 40 in the 2005-06 Mumbai Test.
