Finn replaces injured Plunkett for fourth Test against India

August 03, 2014 21:02 IST

England fast bowler Steven Finn has replaced injured Liam Plunkett for the fourth Test against India at Old Trafford starting Thursday.

Steven FinnPlunkett, who picked 3 wickets in the first drawn Test and scalped 4 during England's loss at Lord's apart from a half-century, opted out of the third Test as well due to an injured ankle.

"Liam Plunkett experienced some left ankle discomfort at the end of the second Investec Test and will miss the fourth Test as this continues to settle," the ECB said in a short statement on their website.

Finn's comeback after a disastrous Ashes tour can be traced to his good form for Middlesex this season - he has taken 44 wickets so far in the county championship this summer at an average of 29.72.

Finn's form in Australia was so bad that he was the only member of the England squad not to get a match in any of the five Tests, which were won by the hosts.

The 25-year-old, who stands at 6 feet 7 inches, made his Test debut against Bangladesh in 2010 and has since then has bagged 90 Test wickets in 23 appearances.

The young Finn though may have got another chance to revive his Test career but England still hope to have Plunkett fit for the fifth and final match at The Oval starting August 15.
