August 12, 2011 16:12 IST

Saurabh Tiwary, Ajinkya Rahane and Ashok Menaria scored centuries as India got into a good position to register an innings victory over Australian Institute of Sports in the concluding three-day encounter of the Emerging Players Meet, at Endeavour Park, Townsville.

After dismissing AIS for 205, almost all the top-order Indian batsmen made substantial contributions as the visitors scored 534, gaining an overall lead of 329 runs.

AIS, in their second essay, were 93 for 2, requiring 236 runs to avoid an innings defeat.

After the two overnight batsmen Rahane (100) and Menaria (112) attained their individual milestones, Tiwary took over, sending the AIS bowlers on a leather hunt. He plundered 151 runs from 148 balls, inclusive of 14 boundaries and seven sixes.

Manoj Tiwary, another in-form batsman, also smashed a quickfire 59, which was inclusive of four boundaries and five sixes.

Young Manish Pandey, who wasn't in good form, also joined the party, scoring 66 off 50 balls, inclusive of two fours and half-a-dozen sixes.

The worst sufferer was Australia Test discard Michael Beer, who conceded 115 runs in his 14-over spell.

AIS 205 & 93/2 in 33 overs (Ryan Carters 56 batting, Glenn Maxwell 25 batting, Jaidev Unadkat 1/5).

India 534 in 109.5 overs (Saurabh Tiwary 151, Ashok Menaria 112, Ajinkya Rahane 100, Manish Pandey 66, Manoj Tiwary 59).
