Emerging Meet: Rahane hits 109 in draw vs SA

Talented Mumbai batsman Ajinkya Rahane's century was in vain, as India fell just four runs short of the target when the umpires called off play in the three-day match against South Africa at the Emerging Players' Meet.

The teams got three points each from the match.

It was an interesting final day, as South Africa, resuming at their overnight score of 122 for 1, declared at 291 for three, with opener Reaza Hendricks (125 not out, 214 balls, 13x4, 1x6) and skipper Stiaan van zyl (128, 163 balls, 18x4, 2x6) scoring centuries.

Set a target of 282, the Indians were 278 for 6 when play was called off in the 56th over.

Rahane scored 109, off only 122 deliveries, striking nine boundaries and two sixes in the process.

Skipper Shikhar Dhawan scored a quickfire 39 while Ambati Rayudu smashed an unbeaten 51, off only 45 balls, inclusive of three fours and three sixes.

With only four runs needed to win, the match was called off by umpires Nathan Johnstone and Damien Mealey after the first delivery of the fourth mandatory over, bowled by Kyle Abbott.
