The divorce certificates of Pakistan cricketer Shoaib Malik and Ayesha Siddiqui, the Hyderabadi girl he married seven years ago, were issued by Wakf Board institute in Hyderabad on Wednesday evening.
The former Pakistan captain had earlier in the day signed papers to divorce Ayesha, after a compromise was brokered by city-based Muslim community leaders, who held hectic negotiations since Tuesday.
The talaqnama between Shoaib and Ayesha was submitted at the Darul Qazzat Golconda after which the Golconda Qazi, under whose jurisdiction tennis star Sania Mirza's residence falls, issued the divorce papers, sources said.
Darul Qazzat Golconda is an institute under the state Wakf board which performs marriages and issues divorce certificates apart from counselling.
The divorce will now enable Shoaib to marry Sania. The wedding is scheduled on April 15 in Hyderabad.
