Pakistan's former Test spinner Col Shujauddin Butt, who was also taken as 1971 India-Pakistan Prisoner of War, died in England on Tuesday. He was 76.
Col Shuja, who played 19 Tests between 1954 and 1962 and also served as a national selector, was suffering from lung cancer.
He took 20 wickets with his left-arm spinners and also scored 395 runs. In 101 first-class games, he took 319 wickets and scored 3,490 runs.
A gentle and down to earth person, Col Shujauddin was born in Lahore in 1930 and represented Northern Punjab, Services, Bahawalpur, Rawalpindi and Punjab University.
Little Master Hanif Mohammad, who played alongside Col Shuja, remembered him as a wonderful person.
"He was full of life but very serious when it came to cricket. He had a pleasing personality that attracted everyone. His death is a great loss to the country and for me, in particular because he was someone with whom I was very close."
