Dean Jones didn't tell me he was married: Ex-mistress

July 20, 2010 17:05 IST

Dean Jones' ex-mistress has claimed that the former cricketer lied about his marital status when they began their decade-long 'on-and-off' affair, which has left his reputation in shreds.

Revealing her identity, international flight attendant and part-time model Kerri-Anne Hamilton said she tried to end the "secret affair" which began in 1998 and led to the birth of a child, Koby, after knowing three months into their relationship that Jones was married.

"Back in 1998 it was a bit like we're in the dark ages; there was no google, no internet ... the only information I would get was from people I asked," said Hamilton from Sydney at Channel Nine Network's programme A Current Affair.

"I changed my phone number, I wouldn't take his calls, I did many many things to end it through the years but he just dangled the carrot," Hamilton said in a paid interview, according to The Australian.

The affair began 12 years into Jones' 24-year marriage. In August last year, Hamilton gave birth to the child, but she denied the conception was planned.

"It couldn't be further from the truth. I was working as an international flight attendant - I was lucky to know what week we were in let alone anything to do with a making-baby cycle," said Hamilton, now 35.

She also claimed that Jones first tried to run away from owning up the child after he was asked for child support payments and that led to the break-up some two years ago.

"He ran away from it, thought he was above it, thought he didn't have to help me at all ... that he's the victim," Hamilton said.

She also insisted that Jones' wife had no knowledge of the affair.

"Absolutely not. It was a secret," she said.

Faced with a public expose by Channel Nine, Jones had disclosed that he fathered a child outside his marriage after an "on-and-off relationship" with a Sydney woman.

"Following an on-and-off relationship with a woman, a child was conceived and subsequently delivered," Jones had said.

Jones, who was stripped off the 2007 Victorian Father of the Year award after the expose, has two daughters - Phoebe, 19, and Isabella, 14 - with his wife Jane.

He played 164 ODIs between 1984 and 1994, scoring 6068 runs at an average of 44.61. He also appeared in 52 Tests between 1984 and 1992, scoring 3631 runs at an average of 46.55.
