Dalmiya's staff interrogated

May 30, 2006 20:32 IST

The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Mumbai Police on Tuesday interrogated two employees of former BCCI chief Jagmohan Dalmiya and travel agents in connection with the alleged misappropriation of Rs 21.74 lakh from the 1996 World Cup account.

Officials of the EOW came to Kolkata on Monday and immediately began interrogation of the two staff members of Dalmiya and two travel agents as part of their inquiry into the FIR filed by BCCI at Mumbai.

They were interrogated at the CAB headquarters at the Eden Gardens and also at Dalmiya's office.

It was not known for how many days the interrogation would continue, the police sources said.

BCCI secretary Niranjan Shah had filed an FIR at the Marine Drive police station in Mumbai in March against Dalmiya for alleged misappropriation of funds from the 1996 World Cup account.

The Mumbai Police later handed over the case to EOW as it was related to alleged economic fraud.

The EOW team had earlier interrogated Dalmiya and others in this connection in Mumbai and later in Kolkata in the first week of April.

Apart from Dalmiya, former BCCI secretary S K Nair and two treasurers Kishore Rungta and Jyoti Bajpai have been named in the FIR.

The group headed by Dalmiya had lost a bitterly fought election against the group headed by union minister Sharad Pawar in November last year.
