Indian women lose to New Zealand

June 09, 2009 21:16 IST

Abject batting by the Indian women's cricket team saw them go down to New Zealand by 17 runs in a warm-up match ahead of their Twenty20 World Cup at Taunton Vale Sports Club Ground on Tuesday.

Electing to bat, New Zealand posted 123 for five, with Aimee Watkins (60) and Amy Satterwaite (34) scoring bulk of the runs.

Chasing 124, India were never really in the match once they lost opener Anagha Deshpande (1) to the fifth delivery.

Only three batters -- Priyanka Roy (28), Anjum Chopra (14) and Babita Mandlik (13) -- managed double digit scores as India folded for 106 in exactly 20 overs.

For New Zealand, Satterthwaite shone with the ball as well, claiming two wickets for 12 runs.

India's previous warm-up match against Australia was abandoned without a ball bowled.

Brief scores: New Zealand 123 for 5 in 20 overs (Aimee Watkins 60, Amy Satterwaite 34; Rumeli Dhar 2/12). India 106 all out in 20 overs (Priyanka Roy 28, Anjum Chopra 14; Amy Satterthwaite 2/12).
