Jagmohan Dalmiya expectedly faced no challenge in getting elected as president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India for a third and final term, while S. Karunakaran Nair was re-elected secretary on Saturday.
Both Dalmiya and Nair as well as the entire set of officials for the year 2003-04 were elected unopposed on the first day of the two-day Annual General Meeting, being held in Kolkata, according to a BCCI spokesman.
"I am happy that I have been given another chance to serve Indian cricket," Dalmiya said immediately after his re-election.
Though most of the officials retained their posts, two new faces got elected. They were Gautam Roy, who was elected as one of the five vice-presidents, and Prof Ratnakar Shetty, who was elected joint secretary.
Gautam Roy, president of the Assam Cricket Association, will replace Prafulla Kumar Mahanta, also from Assam.
Prof Shetty of Mumbai came in as joint secretary in place of Jyoti Bajpai, who was elected treasurer, replacing Kishore Rungta, who retired following completion of his term.
Narhari Amin of Gujarat (West), Kamal Morarka of Rajasthan (Central), Ranbir Singh Mahendra of Haryana (North) and M Ranga Reddy of Hyderabad (South) retained their posts as vice-presidents.
Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar was also re-elected as chairman of the Bangalore-based National Cricket Academy while C K Khanna was re-elected as its vice-chairman.
Selection Committee chairman Brijesh Patel, who could not attend the meeting as he is hospitalised with a heart problem, will continue to be the director of the NCA.
Another important agenda, the appointment of the senior selection committee, is yet to be taken up by the AGM.
Apart from the appointment of selectors for the current year, the AGM will also form various committees to oversee the functioning of the Board.
The AGM will also discuss other important issues, like the Board's dispute with the International Cricket Council on the players' contract as well as the graded system of payment its international cricketers. These issues are likely to be taken up tomorrow.
