Adrian St. John, a 22-year old budding English cricketer and the captain of Chris Gayle Academy was reportedly murdered by a gunshot during an armed robbery attempt in Trinidad.

The incident was said to have occurred on Sunday night with the local media reports confirming the arrest of a 24-year old. The arrested person is said to be a prime suspect in the robbery that has taken place.

St John was the captain of the Chris Gayle Academy in London.

This academy was opened by the Jamaican superstar in 2013 to "improve access to good quality education, training and employment for at risk young people in Jamaica and the UK."

Gayle tweeted his condolences on hearing the tragic news. “Such sad news to hear. My condolences to his family & friends. Adrian St John was the captain of the academy. #Sigh,” he tweeted.

The local media reports suggest that St. John had parked his car to pick up a couple of friends and had been inadvertently shot while trying to drive away from the robbery. The Foreign office of the United Kingdom released a statement stating that it was in contact with the Trinidadian authorities following the death of a British native on Caribbean soil.
