Two-day camp for Indian team in Kolkata before Pak ties

October 22, 2007 21:26 IST

The Indian players will undergo a two-day camp in Kolkata from November 2 ahead of their home One Day and Test engagements against Pakistan.

Cricket Association of Bengal joint secretary Samar Pal said the camp would be held at the Calcutta Cricket and Football Club as the Eden Gardens was scheduled to host the Bengal-Hyderabad Ranji Trophy tie from November 3.

Pal said the BCCI has already given the green signal to the CAB's request for permission to hold the camp at the CC&FC. "BCCI Chief Administrative Officer Ratnakar Shetty told me verbally that we should go ahead with the arrangements. The formal written permission is expected any time".

The Indian players would leave for Guwahati on November 4 for the first ODI that will take place on November 5. The other games are slated to be staged in Mohali (November 8), Kanpur (November 11), Gwalior (November 15) and Jaipur (November 18).

Later, the two sides would play a three-Test series.

CCFC had earlier staged the conditioning camp for the Indian team in the run-up to the 1996 World Cup, besides hosting a week-long camp for the visiting England team in 2002.

Though the 1996 camp went off smoothly, the England team camp six years later saw their coach Duncan Fletcher complaining about everything from the pitch to the lack of adequate number of nets.

CAB joint secretary Amitava Banerjee, however, was all praise for the facilities at the CC&FC.

"The facilities there are excellent. The pitch and other facilities are all of top standard," he said.
