South Australian solicitor Jack Clarke has been elected as Cricket Australia (CA) chairman, following Creagh O'Connor's retirement.

O'Connor, also from South Australia, retired as chairman and from the Board on Friday after three years as CA chairman, and 11 years on CA's Board.

Clarke, a CA director since 1999, has been Deputy Chairman since last year.

As chairman, he will be CA's delegate to the International Cricket Council Board.

He paid tribute to O'Connor's outstanding service to Australian cricket administration at a state, national and international level and said he hoped to continue O'Connor's strong focus on CA's board working in the collective interest of all Australian cricket at both the grassroots and elite level.

''In particular, Creagh has won the respect of the global cricket community for his measured diplomacy at a time of complex international issues which have been managed on a culturally diverse world stage,'' Clarke said.
