India captain Rahul Dravid has been nominated in four categories, including Cricketer of the Year, for the annual ICC awards.
Dravid is the only Indian among the 13 who are in the running for Sir Garfield Sobers award for the Cricketer of the Year, ICC Chief Executive Malcolm Speed announced at a function in Delhi on Wednesday.
He is also in the running for Test Player of the Year, ODI Player of the Year, and Captain of the Year awards.
The last category is a new award, constituted this year along with another, Women's Cricketer of the Year.
Anjum Chopra and Neetu David are the two Indian nominations for the Women's Cricketer of the Year award.
Other Indians who will be gunning for glory are Yuvraj Singh and Irfan Pathan, in the ODI Player category, which has received 17 entries.
Dravid is also the only Indian who will be vying for the Test player award and will have to contend with his Australian counterpart Ricky Ponting, England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff and Sri Lankan off-spinner Muttiah Muralitharan, among others, for the Sobers Trophy.
Batting sensation Mahendra Singh Dhoni failed to find an entry while left-arm spinner Monty Panesar, England's first Sikh player, was a surprise nomination for the Cricketer of the Year award.
The awards will be announced during the ICC Champions Trophy on October 23 in Mumbai.
"The awards highlight all the positives about our great game at the elite level. It focuses on the outstanding performances of the players in the year," Speed said.
The nominees were selected by an ICC panel, headed by Sunil Gavaskar, chairman of the ICC's Cricket Committee, and comprising Allan Donald, Ian Healy, Arjuna Ranatunga and Waqar Younis as members.
The nominations will be forwarded to the ICC Voting Academy, a group of 56, made up of current ICC full-member captains (10), the Elite Panel of match referees and umpires (18) and legends of the game and members of the media (28).
Asked why Dhoni was not considered for either the Emerging Player or ODI Player category, Speed said, "As far as the Emerging Player was considered, Dhoni was not eligible as he had already played more than 10 ODIs before the voting period. Why he was not considered in ODI category is a question for the selection panel to answer."
The winners will be presented crystal trophies designed by Swarovski.
On the two new categories introduced this year, Speed said, "Cricket is not just about runs, wickets and catches. It is also about tactics and the way a side conducts itself and the captain plays a pivotal role in those aspects of the game.
"The Captain of the Year award is designed to recognize the leader's contribution to the game and to the spirit of cricket we all value so highly.
"The award for Women's Cricketer of the Year is a welcome and very appropriate addition to this year's ceremony. It will serve to showcase the very best women's cricketers, something that is vital as the ICC seeks to ensure the continued growth of the game at all levels."
