Australia name unchanged squad for third Pakistan Test

January 08, 2010 12:03 IST

Injured batsman Simon Katich retained his place, while Australia's national selection panel picked an unchanged 13-man squad for the inconsequential third and final Test against Pakistan, commencing on January 14 in Hobart.

The hosts have already bagged the three-match series after winning first two encounters.

"Following Wednesday's exceptional series-winning victory, the NSP has selected an unchanged squad, along with Simon Katich, for the final Test of the home summer," read a statement from Andrew Hilditch, chairman of the selection committee.

Australia sealed the series by snatching a remarkable victory in the second Test in Sydney that saw reversal of roles even after the hosts were bowled out for a paltry 127 on the first day.

Meanwhile, Cricket Australia said they are yet to take a final call on the availability of injured Katich, who will continue to get treatment for his elbow injury while touring with the squad.

"Katich continues to make progress on his elbow injury and with a week to go before the Test starts in Hobart, he will be given as much time as possible to prove his fitness," Hilditch said.

"A decision on his availability will be made closer to the start of the Test in Hobart after he's had an opportunity to bat in the nets to test his injury," team physiotherapist Alex Kountouris said.

Team: Ricky Ponting (captain), Michael Clarke, Doug Bollinger, Brad Haddin, Nathan Hauritz, Phillip Hughes, Mike Hussey, Mitchell Johnson, Simon Katich, Clint McKay, Marcus North, Peter Siddle, Shane Watson.
