Australia have named a new-look squad, including one-day debutant batsman Brad Hodge and uncapped pace bowler Michael Lewis, for next month's Chappell-Hadlee one-day series against New Zealand.

The pair were included in a 13-man squad which is missing Shane Watson, James Hopes, Shaun Tait and Damian Martyn through injury. Glenn McGrath was also rested.

Australia's chairman of selectors Trevor Hohns said McGrath was being given a break because of the demands of a busy season while Hodge, who made his Test debut last week, and Lewis were rewarded with strong performances for Victoria state.

"We have seen what he (Hodge) has done at Test level given the opportunity, and believe he will also do the job in the one-day

side," Hohns said.

"Michael has also been a very solid performer...We have every confidence and faith that he will do a good job for us in the series and he thoroughly deserves his opportunity."

The Chappell-Hadlee series comprises three limited-overs matches to be played in New Zealand next month.

Australia squad: Ricky Ponting (captain), Adam Gilchrist, Nathan Bracken, Stuart Clark, Michael Clarke, Brad Hodge, Brad Hogg, Mike Hussey, Simon Katich, Michael Lewis, Brett Lee, Andrew Symonds, Cameron White.
