Pakistan include Mohammad Asif for third Test

November 24, 2005 20:19 IST
Pakistan have called up young pace bowler Mohammad Asif for next week's third Test against England starting in Lahore.

Pakistan go into the third Test without pace bowler Shabbir Ahmed after he was reported for a suspect action and all rounder Shahid Afridi, who picked up a one-match ban for scuffing the pitch in the second Test.

A Pakistan cricket Board official told Reuters that Asif would be the only addition to the squad.

"Asif is in for Shabbir while Shahid Afridi is under ban. So it is a 15-member squad we have announced for the final Test," Director Abbas

Zaidi said.

Asif played a Test against Australia at Sydney in January this year and also took 10 wickets in the three-day tour match that England lost in Lahore earlier this month.

Zaidi said the board has decided to send Shabbir abroad to get his bowling action rectified by biomechanic experts.

Pakistan squad: Inzamam-ul Haq (captain), Salman Butt, Shoaib Malik, Younis Khan, Mohammad Yousuf, Asim Kamal, Hasan Raza, Kamran Akmal, Shoaib Akhtar, Mohammad Sami, Mohammad Asif, Rana Naved, Danish Kaneria, Arshad Khan, Mushtaq Ahmed.
