The Board of Control for Cricket in India's secretary, Anurag Thakur, gave a clean chit to the three Chennai Super Kings players accused of accepting bribes from a Mumbai-based businessman by former Indian Premier League commissioner Lalit Modi, on Monday.
Asked why the BCCI did not take action against the three players, Thakur replied: "If you are referring to Lalit Modi’s e-mail, then let me tell you that ICC has released a press release yesterday that they have received an e-mail from Modi and they have informed BCCI.
"Lalit Modi had written a letter to ICC, so they informed BCCI about the letter. The three players are international players and fall under the international jurisdiction. There is no information on these players from ICC so far, so it is in a way a clean chit for them to play."
Modi had alleged that two leading Indian cricketers and a West Indian player were bribed by an Indian real estate tycoon, who is also a bookmaker.
He had tweeted a letter he claims to have written to International Cricket Council CEO Dave Richardson in June 2013.
Thakur said since all international players are under the purview of the ICC's Anti-Corruption Unit, and if they have not taken any action, then the BCCI can't do anything.
"If there would have been anything then ICC would have reported it back to us," he added.
