Former India cricket captain Krishnamachari Srikkanth is likely to take over as the chairman of the selection committee from Dilip Vengsarkar at the BCCI's Annual General Meeting in Mumbai.

"Srikkanth is now almost certain to take over the chief selector's job, with the BCCI deciding not to give an extension to Vengsarkar," a source in the Board of Control for Cricket in India said on Thursday night.

Srikkanth, who also dabbles in cricket commentary, did not initially agree, but, it is learnt, that the former opener is now keen to accept the position.

It is also learnt that the none of the current selectors are likely to be retained in the new panel.

Yashpal Sharma may return to the panel from North Zone, while Surendra Bhave (West), Narendra Hirwani (Central) and Raja Venkat (East) could be the other likely replacements.

The source also said BCCI secretary Niranjan Shah, whose term also comes to an end, will hold a key position in the Board, though it is still not clear in what capacity he would be accommodated.

The AGM, to be held on September 27 and 28, will see president Sharad Pawar [Images] stepping down and Shashank Manohar taking over.
