West Indies [Images] captain Chris Gayle has been named captain of Stanford Superstars, which will face England [Images] in the 20-million-dollar Stanford Twenty20 [Images] match on November 1.

The left-hand opening batsman will have Antigua and Barbuda captain Sylvester Joseph as his deputy.

"Our selection panel gave much thought to this selection and deliberated extensively and there was consensus that Chris is the man for the job, he's an experienced international cricketer, possesses a cool head and is the best man for the job in this all important match," said selection panel head Sir Vivian Richards on Friday.

In addition to his five international Twenty20 appearances, the 29-year-old Gayle has featured in 73 Tests and 186 one-day internationals.
