South Africa dashed hopes of the dream final between arch-rivals India and Pakistan when they beat the latter by 98 runs by the Duckworth Lewis method in the semi-final of the under-19 cricket World Cup on Saturday.

The Proteas knocked out Pakistan for 153 runs in 39.3 overs in the rain-affected match at the Kinrara Oval in Kuala Lumpur to move into the final.

Pakistan, chasing a revised target of 252 from 47 overs, resumed their innings on 86-2 off 18.5 overs, on Saturday. But they succumbed to the right-arm off breaks by Mohammad Yaseen Vallie, who finished with four for 25, to be dismissed for a paltry 153.

On Friday, Pakistan conceded 260-8 off 50 overs to South Africa and it began its chase in a shaky manner, losing both opener Umar Akmal and number three Shaan Khan with just 15 runs on the board.

But Ahmad Shahzad and Umar Amin dug in and put together a good partnership in the face of some fine SA bowling, particularly in the shape of left-arm medium pacer Wayne Parnell, who was getting the new ball to swing in prodigiously into the right-handers.

With the score at 61-2, the rain came and three overs were lost from the Pakistan innings before it was possible to retake the field with the target adjusted accordingly to 252.

Shahzad and Amin then brought the score up to 86-2 off 18.5 overs before the heavens really opened. No more play was possible on the drenched Kinrara Oval and because the minimum of 20 overs was not bowled the game will now resume at 1000 (local time - 12.30 IST) with 47 overs still available to Pakistan.
