Former India player Hemang Badani cracked an unbeaten 88 to help Chennai Superstars score a two-wicket win over Hyderabad Heroes in their second match of the six-team Indian Cricket League domestic 50-over-a-side one day cricket tournament at the Mayajaal grounds in Chennai on Monday.
Put into bat, Hyderabad put on 263 for seven in 50 overs, thanks to a fine century plus score by Ambati Rayudu (103) and his third wicket partnership of 161 for the third wicket with Anirudh Singh (77).
In reply, Chennai Superstars got off to a good start but were 3 for 116 before Badani took control of the proceedings and put on two fifty plus partnerships for the hosts, achieving the victory in the 50th over with a total of 264 for eight in 49.1 overs.
Rayudu, who was out caught by Kumaran of Jesuraj had hit 10 fours and a six in his 103 of 134 balls. Anirudh Singh's 77 contained 11 hits to the fence.
Chennai's medium pacer G Vignesh was the chief wicket taker with 3 for 40.
Chasing a moderate total, the hosts lost opener Devendra (21) with just 37 on board. But Hemanth Kumar (64) and Sriram (21) steadied their innings.
After Chennai lost three wickets - Sriram, Hemanth Kumar and Satish at the same score of 116,Badani stole the limelight with a superb 88 of 84 balls (six fours and three sixes).
Badani was involved in two worthy partnerships of 59 with V Saravanan (20) for the fifth wicket and 51 for the seventh wicket with P Vivek (25).
