India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni [Images] would get enhanced security cover as Jharkhand chief minister Shibu Soren has asked the police chief to tighten the security cover of the cricketer.
"The chief minister yesterday [Friday] asked the director general of Police V D Ram, to review Dhoni's security, and replace security personnel with another team of armed men. If required, provide him with commandos," CM's press secretary Safiq Ansari said on Saturday.
Soren's direction came in the wake of Dhoni's going to the Birsa Munda airport in Ranchi on Thursday without any "armed men" to board a flight to Chennai to participate in the selection committee meeting for the two-Test series against England [Images].
Jharkhand Police spokesman S N Pradhan on Thursday said that Dhoni had been given Z category security and he was rather unhappy over too many policemen guarding him.
Dhoni's former coach Chanchhal Bhattacharya, however, claimed the Z category security was provided to Dhoni just "on paper".
The Jharkhand government last year announced the Z security for the dashing wicketkeeper-batsman following media reports that he might face threats from the naxals, who infested 18 of its districts.
