Pathan brothers guide Baroda to victory over Maharashtra

A century by Yusuf Pathan and his 150-run stand for the sixth wicket with brother Irfan helped Baroda register a four-wicket victory over Maharashtra in their Group B match at Motibag ground in Vadodara.

Chasing a target of 227 runs for victory, Baroda were struggling at 75 for five before the Pathan brothers came together and steered the hosts home, keeping them in contention for the knockout phase.

The cancellation of India's remaining two one-dayers against England [Images] helped Baroda to avail the services of Yousuf, Irfan and Munaf Patel [Images] and the trio made their presence count.

Yusuf came to the crease at the fall of the four wicket and soon dominated the visitors bowling.

He started to rebuild the innings and then launched into his aggressive mode scoring 100 runs in just 109 deliveries with the help of 16 fours.

He was ably supported by Irfan, who scored his half-century in 89 balls with the help of nine fours and a six.

Earlier, resuming at their overnight score of 273 for six, Maharahtra's second innings folded for 303 inside the first hour of play.

It was Munaf who destroyed Maharashtra claiming three out of the four wickets to fall today.

Baroda collected five points from this win, taking their tally to nine from four matches.

Brief scores: Maharashtra 228 and 303 (Munaf Patel 4 for 40, Rajesh Pawar 4 for 46) lost to Baroda 305 and 229 for 6 (Yusuf Pathan 100, Irfan Pathan [Images] 50).

Bangar, Rawat shine as Railways snatch draw

Sanjay Bangar and Mahesh Rawat defied odds to hit gritty half-centuries as Railways secured an unlikely draw against Uttar Pradesh [Images] in their Group B match in New Delhi [Images].

Chasing 297 to win, Railways were staring at defeat after being reduced to 33 for six but former India all-rounder Bangar (70 not out) and stumper Rawat (80) came up with defiant half-centuries to dash the visitors' hopes.

Railways were 215 for eight when play was called off for the day and match ended in an exciting draw.

Bangar's unbeaten 70 came off 265 balls with nine fours in it, while Rawat hit 14 boundaries en route to his 127-ball 80. They added 112 runs for the eighth wicket to pull off a very satisfying result.

Medium pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar (5 for 35) ran through the Railways top-order, sending half the team back to the hut. 

Bhuvanehswar's heroics with the ball, however, were negated by the splendid Bangar-Rawat duo and Uttar Pradesh were left to mourn a lost opportunity to get full points.

India Test discard Murali Kartik [Images] also made a significant contribution with his 30 runs down the order.

Earlier, Uttar Pradesh, resuming at 118 for four, declared their second innings at 150 for six after losing Tanmay Srivastava (62) and Bhuvneshwar (12). 

Tanmay added 11 runs to his overnight total while Bhuvneshwar scored was out after making 12 runs.

Andhra-Tamil Nadu match drawn

S Badrinath and A Mukund scored a century apiece even as the fifth round Group B match between Andhra and Tamil Nadu ended in draw in Vijayawada.

Mukund scored 150 off 264 balls, adorned with 12 hits to fence and one six, while Badrinath smashed 247-ball 121 runs with the help of 11 fours and two sixes.

The duo put on 204 runs for the second wicket as Tamil Nadu declared at 286 for four wickets. In reply, Andhra were 95 for three wickets in their second innings when the stumps were drawn at the Indira Gandhi [Images] Stadium.

Resuming at overnight score 131 for one, Tamil Nadu added 155 runs for loss of three wickets before Badrinath was caught by Andhra's captain Y Gnaneswara Rao off Kalyan Krishna.

Wickets fell quickly thereafter as captain Dinesh Karthik [Images] (4) and Mukund also followed.

Kalyan Krishna removed Karthik and M Vijay (44) while Vijay Kumar send Mukund back to the pavilion.

Andhra received an early blow by losing Prabhu Kiran (20), LNP Reddy (5), when the score was just 25 on board.

M Suresh, 37 not out, and B Sumanth, with an unbeaten 18, took charge and stopped further collapse.

Tamil Nadu collected three points while Andhra got one.

Tamil Nadu leads the Group B Table with 15 points from 4 matches, while Andhra Pradesh scored three points from five matches.
