Bindra re-elected PCA president

Inderjit Singh Bindra, a veteran cricket administrator, was on Sunday unanimously re-elected president of the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) at the Annual General Meeting of the cricket body held in Mohali.

M P Pandove, who is PCA's honorary secretary, was also re-elected unanimously.

Bindra is in the chair since 1978.

Besides Bindra and Pandove, who has been holding the post since 1981, seven other office bearers of PCA for the term 2008-2012 who were elected today are G S Walia, who became joint secretary of the PCA from treasurer while D P Reddy has been made treasurer.

BCCI vice-president Lalit Modi, B C Gupta and Sudhir Malik were re-elected as vice-presidents of the PCA while two new vice-presidents elected were Sumedh Singh Saini, who is also Punjab's Vigilance Director and Viswajeet Khanna.

Noted journalist Prabhu Chawla, who is executive member of PCA, will be the chairman of the Media committee while Kamal Bindra, wife of Bindra, will head the women's cricket committee for the term 2008-09.

The PCA also released the names of the members elected to the selection committee, both junior and senior, tournament fixture committee, women selection committee, coaching and few other committees.

"Among two key recommendations that were made at the AGM is to give boost to cricket in rural areas and provide more support to Regional Cricket Centres," Pandove said.
