Delhi Daredevils thrashed Rajasthan Royals by nine wickets in the third match of the Indian Premier League on Saturday night at the Ferozeshah Kotla.
Gautam Gambhir [Images], 58 not out off 46 balls (7x4, 1x6) and Shikar Dhawan, 52 not out off 41 balls (7x4) shared a 112-run partnership for the second wicket to guide the homeside to 132 in 15.1 overs after Sehwag (12)'s early dismissal.
Earlier, a fine bowling display by Daredevils restricted Royals to a modest 129 for eight.
Electing to bat after winning the toss, the Royals, mostly composed of inexperienced domestic players, failed to raise a big partnership with Daredevils bowlers sticking to a tight line and length.
Except for Brett Geeves, all the other host bowlers returned miserly figures.
The visitors were never in a position to post a big score with the highest partnership being 22 for the seventh wicket.
Glenn McGrath did not allow the Daredevils to start with a flourish with a fine three-over spell in which he removed opener Taruwar Kohli (7) and conceded 13 runs.
Though McGrath was hit for a huge six over point fielder by Kohli in the first over itself the veteran fast bowler avenged it in the next over by removing the young opener, who was caught by Mithun Manhas at team score of 17.
The other opener Yusuf Pathan (10) was out in the fourth over trying to steal a single but could not beat the throw of Manhas from the square area.
Royals were pushed to the wall next over with Australian all-rounder Shane Watson running out himself in search of a second run. All-rounder Darren Lehman followed his fellow Australian Watson soon after being trapped by Farveez Maharoof and that was before the visitors' 50 came up in the ninth over.
If the Royals first five overs yielded a meagre 37, it was even slower after that and they were 57 for four after 10 overs.
Mohammad Kaif tried to steady the innings but after running seven singles and a two he was holed out at short fine leg to Geeves while trying an attempted scoop of a Rajat Bhatia delivery to reduce his team to 57 for 5.
Young Ravindra Jadeja briefly brought the crowd something to cheer hitting a huge six over long on boundary off Daniel Vettori [Images] and a fine leg four next ball. The left hander hit another six over long on off the same bowler before the old warhorse had the last laugh clean bowling his nemesis.
Jadeja topscored with 29 which he made from 23 balls with the help of two fours and two sixes. Dinesh Salunkhe remained not out with a valuable 26.
Captain Shane Warne [Images] produced a run-a-ball 14 before being out to a Maharoof delivery which hit his stumps after caressing the pads.
Maharoof was the pick of Daredevils bowlers returning figures of 2 for 11 while Bhatia claimed 2 for 17.
