Mike Brearley has been named the next president of the Marylebone Cricket Club for a year, from October 1.
The 65-year-old former England captain will succeed incumbent MCC president Doug Insole.
Brearley captained England to victory in the 1981 Ashes and was credited with transforming the fortunes of the team's match winner Ian Botham.
He led England in 31 of his 39 Tests and also represented the team in 25 one-day internationals, including the 1979 World Cup Final at Lord's.
