A month after suffering a knee injury, Yuvraj Singh [Images] is making a good recovery and a functional assessment test will be conducted to determine the actual progress, Board of Control for Cricket in India's orthopaedic consultant Dr Anant Joshi said on Wednesday.

"I checked up on Yuvraj here last night and he is doing quite well. The physiotherapy course programme given by John Gloster is being followed by him. It would be another month or so before we carry out a functional assessment test where he will be subjected to a range of activities to see how much he has actually recovered," Joshi said.

Yuvraj, who suffered a tear in the anterior cruciate ligament of his left knee while playing kho-kho during a practice session in Mohali during the ICC [Images] Champions Trophy, does not have any swelling in his knee now.

"The swelling has gone down. He is no longer limping or using crutches. A range of motions which were earlier restricted because of the injury have come back," Joshi said in Chandigarh.

He said the whole focus now is to build up muscle strength which would later include running and other related exercises. Without setting a time frame for the Chandigarh lad's return to the game, Joshi said: "what we are seeing today is just the initial recovery. Yuvraj is going to a gymnasium to build muscle strength and doing some exercises. Hopefully, he would be able to play soon, but I can't give any definite date."

Asked on the assessment by some experts, who had said that Yuvraj would take anywhere between two to six months to recover, Joshi said, "I cannot say anything like that without actually seeing the patient. In the medical profession, you can't be that specific without examining the patient".
