Bengal batsman Rohan Gavaskar had a black-out after being struck by a Harvinder Singh delivery below the right ear towards the end of the second day's play in the Ranji Trophy outing against Railways at the Eden Gardens on Wednesday.
Gavaskar, then batting on 1 in the Bengal first innings, anticipated a bouncer and ducked, taking his eyes off the ball. But the delivery did not rise that much and hit him.
Gavaskar collapsed on the ground and the non-striker Arindam Das as also the fielders rushed to him.
The left hander received medical attention on the ground, and recovered within five minutes of sustaining the injury in the penultimate delivery of the fourth last over of the day.
But Gavaskar's woes were yet to be over, as he was hit on the right wrist by the very next delivery of Harvinder. However, the injury was minor.
After the day's play, a doctor said that Gavaskar told him that he had a blackout for a few minutes after being hit below the ear.
''But he is now fine. And there is not need for a scan,'' the medico said.
