Tamil Nadu were tottering at 80 for three in reply to Haryana's 287 on the second day of their Ranji Trophy Elite Group A match in Chennai on Sunday.

Resuming at 169 for four, Haryana's overnight batsmen Sandeep Singh and Mahesh Rawat added 69 runs before being separated.

Off-spinner Aswin got rid of Sandeep (28), who was caught at silly point. Mahesh Rawat (42), with six boundaries, holed out to captain S Badrinath at backward short leg.

Joginder Sharma (9), Sachin Rana (8) and Gaurav Vaishist (6) were out cheaply. But Amit Mishra (50) hit a scintillating half century lower down the order while wickets were tumbling at the other end. Mishra and Vaishist added 42 valuable runs for the ninth wicket.

Mishra struck eight boundaries before Yo Mahesh induced an edge that went straight to the keeper.

For Tamil Nadu, spinners R Aswin (4 for 93) and leggie C Suresh (4 for 54) were the main wicket-takers.

The hosts started strongly as openers M.Vijay (34) and S Anirudha (23) put on 60 runs. Medium pacer Joginder Sharma got the wicket of Anirudha and then clean bowled Prasanna for a duck.  M Vijay was caught at first slip by Deepak Joon off Mishra.

Skipper Badrinath (11) and night-watchman C Suresh (0) were at the crease at the end of the day's play.
