Gujarat bowlers restricted Hyderabad to 205 on the opening day of the Ranji Trophy Elite Group B match in Hyderabad on Saturday.
Half-centuries by opener Tirumal Suman (55) and D Vinay Kumar (54 not out) saved the blues for the hosts. In reply, Gujarat were 4 without loss at stumps with Nilesh Modi and Azar Bilakhia at the crease.
Electing to bat, the hosts started off with confidence but lost youngster D B Ravi Teja [Images] (11) and Anirudh Singh (14) cheaply. In the circumstances, Suman played cautiously to script a patient half-century.
Gujarat spinner Amit Singh claimed three wickets for 30 runs while speedster Ashraf Makada took 3 for 39 to steal the early advantage from the home side.
In-form Ambati Rayudu was foxed by Amit Singh and his stumps were shattered after scoring 22 off 56 balls.
When the hosts were reeling 117 for 5, veteran D Vinay Kumar packed all his experience in to his innings by notching up an unbeaten 54 to take the team past the 200-mark.
Vinay, almost single handedly took the innings to safety during his 110-minute stay at the wicket with five boundaries and one six as Hyderabad folded up at 205.
