India, SA evenly matched: Chappell

November 21, 2005 20:01 IST

Indian coach Greg Chappell [Images] on Monday said both India and South Africa [Images] were evenly matched and foresaw a tight finish to the series if Tuesday's third ODI was washed out due to rain.

"We will wait and see what happens tomorrow. But the series will be fairly tight as both teams are more or less evenly matched," said the former Australian captain.

On his assessment of the Proteas, he said they had good depth and strategy. "They are playing basically as a good unit."

Observing there were no weaknesses in the South African team, he said, "All their players need to be watched. Their performance so far has given us an indication of what strategy we can adopt."

Showering praise on master-blaster Sachin Tendulkar [Images], who would become the world's most capped player in ODIs, Chappell said, "What Sachin brings to the game far outweighs his contribution with the bat."
